Art auction in bid to help save Wareham community cafe

A CHARITY auction hopes to help a Wareham community cafe stay open as it struggles “to keep its head above water”.

On Saturday (December 16), Not Just Sundaes, at Trinity Church on South Street, will host a fundraising art auction.

The cafe, which offers a meeting place for local groups, is also a designated ‘warm space’.

Ahead of bidding getting underway, organisers said more than 75 lots have already been donated, with their original value totalling £11,000.

Trustee, Malcolm Lewis-Fry, said: “Not Just Sundaes is really struggling to keep its head above the water financially.

“That’s why we’re doing the auction, to help keep it going for the sake of the local community.”

The event hopes to raise £1,000 for the cafe.

Malcolm has run previous charity sales before, creating the Art4Action cause with his wife Julie and daughter, Sophia.

Founded during the Covid-19 pandemic, it gave artists a platform to exhibit their work and raise money for those in need.
