Poole Cineworld one of six to close across UK: see full list

CINEWORLD in Poole will close in January 19, it has been announced.

The Poole branch is on a list of six Cineworld sites that are now confirmed to close, including Castleford, Leigh, Middlesbrough, Northampton and Weymouth.

A spokesperson said the landlords of the six cinemas chose to reclaim their properties, with a closure date given of January 19 for the Poole Cineworld.

Cineworld closed fives sites in Glasgow Parkhead, Bedford, Loughborough, Yate and Swindon Regent Circus on July 26 earlier this year.

The closures come as Cineworld announced the completion of its restructuring plan which it said is a “crucial step” to securing its long-term future and profitability of its UK cinema operations.

Javier Sotomayor, president of Cineworld International said: “The successful completion of our restructuring plan, achieved with the crucial support of our landlords, protects thousands of jobs across the UK and provides us with the financial stability to continue investing in delivering extraordinary experiences for our valued customers.

“This milestone sets the stage for a brighter future, enabling Cineworld to continue sharing joy in communities across the UK for many years to come.”

As stated a “crucial step” to securing its long-term future and profitability of its UK cinema operations.
Last week my self my partner and 5year old went to see Paddington at tower park Poole. The tickets plus two medium popcorns and a small coke and a small kids box all came to £72. How they can talk about profit is beyond me!. We worked out it was cheaper to pay for a train to Dorchester and go see the movie there and would still have money left over for a small meal somewhere. There is profit and then there is greed.

So disappointed! Love going to the cinema, after lockdown we have finally got some good films coming through; where will we go now?
    Such a shame

I go to Tower Park cinema, I can understand why that theatre would be closed, as it has 16 screens, I don’t know of any other cinema that has that many, the cost to run them must be huge.
I have gone many times, as I have an Unlimited card, and rarely is the screens even 1/3 full, screenings before 5pm, may only have half a dozen of us, depending on how popular the film.
We normally have a very varied choice, so usually something for everyone.
I will miss the lack of this cinema.
I wish the Staff well, as not the Christmas gift they would be wanting.
Perhaps another company will take it on, but cut down the amount of screens.
