THE recent humid spell in Somerset and Dorset is set to break tomorrow – with a weather warning issued for thunderstorms covering parts of the county – including Yeovil, Wincanton, Wareham and Dorchester.

Met Office forecasters are warning of “heavy rain and thunderstorms”, with a yellow alert in place between midnight and 1pm on Thursday (June 12).

“An area of heavy rain and thunderstorms will move northwards, perhaps leading to some travel disruption in a few places,” a forecaster said.

They said there is a “good chance” driving conditions will be affected, leading to “longer journey times by car and bus”, as well as possible delays to train services.

“Some short term loss of power and other services is likely,” the Met Office said.

However, they said the storm conditions would clear later, after up to 20mm of rain could fall in an hour, or up to 40mm in three hours or less.

“Wind will also be strong a times, perhaps gusting to 40-50mph around hills and coasts,” the Met Office went on.

Temperatures through Thursday are set to hover around the 17C mark, the forecasters said, with the rain easing from around 1pm.
