Controlling Poole man Daniel Bagwell jailed after leaving woman with fractured eye socket

A 43-YEAR-OLD Poole man who assaulted a woman to the point where she needed surgery has been jailed.

Daniel Bagwell admitted charges of controlling coercive behaviour and inflicting grievous bodily harm at Bournemouth Crown Court last Monday, March 10.

This comes after Bagwell subjected a woman to a sustained assault at an address in Poole on Friday, September 13, 2024.

He reportedly punched the woman multiple times and threatened to stab her with a knife before taking her mobile phone, house keys and car keys.

The victim fled the address but sustained injuries to her face, upper arms, chest, rib cage and thigh.

She required hospital treatment, which included surgery for a fractured eye socket.

Following enquiries, Bagwell was subsequently charged in relation to the incident. He was jailed for two years and three months.

PC Jack Gibson, of Dorset Police, said: “Bagwell subjected the victim to a vicious attack which has had a significant lasting impact on both her mental and physical wellbeing.

“I want to praise her for the courage she has shown by supporting our investigation and ensuring this violent man has been put behind bars.

“I hope her bravery will help to give other victims the strength to come forward and report domestic abuse to us, in the knowledge that we will fully investigate the matter, treat victims with dignity and respect and hold offenders to account.

“We want to make it very clear that we do not tolerate any form of abuse or violence, and we are determined to see that anyone looking to offend in such a way is stopped and victims are supported.”

Victims of domestic assault are asked to report it to the police. This can be done in confidence.

If abuse is in progress and someone is in immediate danger, call 999.
