Poole man jailed for rape and assault in Bournemouth

A POOLE man has been jailed after being found guilty of raping and assaulting a woman at her home in Bournemouth.
Perry Michael Legg, 33, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court today, June 21, after being found guilty at a previous trial at the same court of three charges of rape as well as an offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
At an earlier hearing, he had admitted an offence of possessing extreme pornographic material.
Legg was sentenced to 12 years in prison. He was also made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.
On the evening of July 20, 2021 Legg and the victim, a woman aged in her 20s who was known to the defendant, were at her home address and had been drinking when Legg began physically assaulting her before proceeding to rape her in a sustained sexual attack.
She subsequently fled to a neighbour’s address and contacted a friend, who came to collect her.
Police were called and Legg was arrested in the early hours of the following morning after he learned police were looking for him and agreed to meet officers in Winton.
Following the defendant’s arrest, his phone was analysed and found to contain a number of images depicting extreme pornographic material.
Detective Sergeant Nick Whittaker, of Dorset Police, said: “Perry Legg subjected his victim to a truly horrific physical and sexual attack, and I want to praise her for the courage she has shown in coming forward to report the offences.
“She has also shown immense bravery throughout the investigation and court process and helped to ensure Legg faces justice for his despicable crimes.
“I hope her actions will help inspire other victims of sexual offences to find the strength to report them to police, in the knowledge that they will be fully supported and we will do all we can to ensure offenders are held accountable.”
