A 24-YEAR-OLD woman has died after being hit by a car on the A35 in Poole.
The tragic incident happened on the Upton bypass at around 8.10pm on Wednesday night (December 4).
Dorset Police said they received a report of concern for the welfare of a woman walking eastbound on the A35 from Upton towards the Shell garage.
“It was subsequently reported that the woman had been involved in a collision with a vehicle a very short time after,” a spokesperson said.
“The road was closed for emergency services to respond to the incident and remains closed for specialist officers to examine the scene.”
The woman, from the Poole area, was taken to hospital where she was very sadly pronounced dead.
Police Sergeant Lee Savage, of the traffic unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who sadly died in this collision and we have specially trained officers supporting them at this difficult time.
“We know there were a large number of witnesses to this incident and I am appealing for anyone who saw what happened and has not already spoken to police to please come forward.
“Also, I am keen to speak to any motorists who saw or captured dashcam footage of the woman walking along the dual carriageway, the manner of driving of other motorists or the moments leading up to the collision to contact us.
“Finally, I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures are in place.”
