Firefighters tackle blaze at Swanage hotel

DOZENS of firefighters put out a fire at a Swanage hotel that left one person suffering with smoke inhalation.

The incident, understood to be at the Grand Hotel in Burlington Road, was reported at around 11.10pm last night (August 1).

Around 25 firefighters from Swanage, Wareham, Bere Regis and Westbourne were sent to the scene, with Swanage Fire Station saying the fire involved a tumble dryer.

“On their arrival crews found a fire in the laundry which was extinguished by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using hose reels and a main line,” a Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.

“The premises was evacuated and one staff member was treated for smoke inhalation by ambulance service colleagues.”

The fire was out by 11.50pm, they added, with Swanage Fire Station saying crews remained on site until around 1am.
