Wareham firefighter raises thousands for charity with 24-hour running challenge

AN on-call firefighter at Wareham Fire Station has raised almost £5,000 for charity after completing a gruelling running challenge.

25-year-old Brandon Fox was cheered on by supporters yesterday (April 13) when he crossed the finish line as he put to bed a challenge which saw him run 24, 5k loops near the Wareham Fire Station in 24 hours straight.

With the sun beaming down on him, Brandon battled exhaustion as he completed the challenge dressed head to toe in full firefighting equipment – including heavy boots, a helmet and heat-resistant gear.

Brandon, who started the challenge on at 6am on Saturday (April 12) ran a total distance of 120km – 74.6 miles.

He initially set himself a target of £2,400 – but this has so far been smashed, with £4,895 raised at the time of writing.

Money raised will go towards the Fire Fighters Charity which provides a wide array of support for fire service personnel and their families.

Bricklayer Brandon said he chose to support the charity because he wanted to “make sure their amazing work can continue long into the future”.

He said: “I have chosen to take on this challenge to support the Fire Fighters Charity because I believe this has never been achieved before.

“Hearing about other firefighters’ stories when receiving support from this charity gave me the inspiration to help.

“The charity relies heavily on donations from fundraisers, and I want to make sure their amazing work can continue long into the future.”
