THE public are being advised to take care following reports of “a significant number” of wasps taking up a new home in a Swanage play area.
Temperatures soared to a height of 26 degrees in Purbeck at the weekend, and while people made the most of the hot weather, Swanage Town Council has issued a warning for those wanting to enjoy King George’s Play Area.
The wasps were spotted at King George’s Play Area last Friday (July 11) and have been spotted feeding on sap from the willow structure in the play area.
While the wasps are not currently displaying aggressive behaviour, the town council is asking people to exercise caution and to avoid disturbing the area.
“The situation is being monitored, and any necessary updates will be provided in due course,” a town council spokesperson said.
