Spate of incidents sees burglars stealing car keys and vehicles

BURGLARS are breaking into homes to take car keys before stealing cars.

A spate of incidents in Poole and Bournemouth has prompted Dorset Police to issue a warning to residents to be on their guard against the crime.

Since the start of the year, the force said there have been 12 incidents where burglars have entered properties at night and stolen car keys, before driving away in the vehicles.

Detective Inspector Andy Brix, of the Neighbourhood Enforcement Team, said: “In most of these incidents, BMW cars have been targeted.

“While we carry out enquires into these incidents, I want to take the opportunity to encourage homeowners to keep their property secure at night and to lock all doors and windows.

“Keep your car keys safe, out of view when at home, and away from your front door.”
