Long-serving Swanage firefighter retires after 40 years

SWANAGE Fire Station’s long-serving commander has stood down after more than four decades in the service.

Fellow firefighters paid tribute to Station Commander Phil Burridge on Tuesday, June 27, as he took part in his last drill ahead of retirement on June 29.

“This evening was a historic and very special evening for Swanage Fire Station,” a spokesperson for the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

“This was Station Commander Phil Burridge’s last drill night before he retires at the end of this Thursday.

“Phil was presented with a certificate and a plaque by the service’s Chief Fire Officer, Ben Ansell.

“Phil has served just over 40 years in the fire service and has attended many incidents in this time.

“We wish Phil the very best in his retirement and hope he enjoys peaceful nights and time with the family from now on.”

He was joined by family and friends for the presentation.
