Two hectares of heathland in Corfe Mullen damaged by fire

AN unexplained fire damaged around two hectares of heathland at Corfe Mullen last night (April 9).

Firefighters were called to the scene, in Higher Blandford Road, at around 7.30pm after numerous 999 calls from members of the public.

A Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said crews – from Wimborne, Poole, Westbourne, Redhill Park and Hamworthy – found the area “well alight”.

“Firefighters used main lines, hose reel jets and beaters to extinguish the fire and our stop was in at 8.59pm,” they added.

“Several crews remained to dampen down but we had left the scene by 9.30pm. A cause hasn’t been determined.”
